Organize

Write down all the major cleaning jobs that you want to do, as well as other tasks in the same room. Organizing your cleaning and decluttering per room is one way not to feel overwhelmed by the jobs ahead. Focus on a single room and wait until you have completed it before moving onto the next. That way you will only have one room upheaved at a time, while the rest stay as normal.

It also helps to note down all the cleaning kit you will need for the whole house, and make sure you have enough supplies before you start. You don’t want to have to stop your cleaning and to go out to the grocery store, just because you ran out cleaning solutions.

Declutter

Declutter your home to get rid of anything that you don’t use. There is no point in keeping stuff that takes up space in your cupboards. Old clothes, toys, and household items can all be donated to charity. As well as making your home look better and tidier, you are doing something to help others too.

Other things to declutter are your food cupboards. There are always things we can find in our food cupboards that are perhaps out of date or have been open for some time and the contents are no longer edible. Start by emptying your cupboards completely and wiping the shelves to clean them. Then only put back items that are in good condition and that you know you will use.

Tricky Problems

When undertaking rigorous cleaning, it gives us the chance to inspect our homes for damage that might otherwise go unnoticed. For example, a slow leaking water pipe may have damaged carpets and flooring. Once the damage has been fixed, you are left with the clean-up job.

Water damage or spillages can cause unpleasant and musty smells in carpets, and there are a few ways to remove it. You might try using baking powder and vinegar to neutralize smells. If you’re not sure of how to get smell out of carpet in your home, you might need professional services to clean them for you.

Save Money by Using Natural Cleaners

Cleaning products can be expensive, and also the chemicals they contain can be harmful to health. Avoid them by making your own natural cleaning products for your home. Lemons, baking soda and white vinegar act as great cleaners and can be used on almost every surface in your house.

Get an empty spray bottle and mix baking powder with warm water for a natural cleaning spray. Adding lemon will give it a nice scent as well as clearing grease. Or, you might also use a few drops of essential oils for a fresh smell.

Vinegar is a natural antibacterial that is effective at killing germs and has also been shown to combat E.coli. The smell of vinegar disappears as soon as it is dry, so don’t be afraid to use it liberally!

Don’t Forget the Outside!

Take time to clean your garden furniture, as well as hosing patios areas to avoid grime. It is also a good idea to repaint outdoor woodwork if needed, as well as clearing out the guttering on your roof. Doing so not only helps your home to look nice from the outside but helps preserve it too.

‘Spring cleaning’ your home doesn’t have to feel like a mammoth task. In fact, it can be fun! Knowing that you are getting rid of clutter and making a room cleaner and fresher can help you feel better about yourself, as well as creating a pleasant environment to live in. Just take it a little bit at a time, and use some of these tips to make it easier, and you’ll soon have a sparkling home to relax in!
